Getting your website indexed

By now you will be wondering how you can get your website into the search engines. There are a number of steps to do this and i will briefly cover the basics as there is alot of information for this section. To get your website indexed you should do the following steps:

1. Submit to Search Engines
2. Submit a sitemap
3. Create unique content regularly
4. Create backlinks
5. SEO

Submitting to search engines: This is simply what it says, making the search engines aware that your site exists! In google you can do this through google webmasters tools. I would suggest making your website aware to the big three search engines, msn, google and yahoo.

Submit a sitemap: This can be done through google webmasters tools again. If you are using a blogger blog then your sitemap is at http://www.youblog.blogspot.com/atom.xml
If you are not using a content management system then you will have to create a sitemap. I prefer xml sitemaps and not html based ones but everyone has there own preference. There are many online generators for xml google sitemaps.

Create unique content regularly: Its said in the title! Create new content regularly - Google loves new content and indexes you more often due to it.

Create backlinks: Backlinks for any beginner to web design are links from other websites to yours. This enables your website to be seen by the search engines and therefore indexed faster. Popular sources are yahoo answers, digg, stumbleupon, propellar and of course forums (used in signatures).

SEO: Known as search engine optimisation is to enable your website greater visibility to the search engine and increase your websites rankings. As i said, there is too much to explain in this one post so more will come later.
